Natural Hair tip: Patience.

Today, I got featured on ‘African Naturals‘ (a FB community for african naturalistas) and while I was looking at the pictures I’d sent in, I realized how much my hair has grown. I do want long hair but I don’t focus on that. I just try to take good care of my hair, and even though I have my scissor happy moments, I’ve still been able to retain a bit of length. So if you’re getting frustrated  because your hair is short, remember that hair grows on average about half an inch per month, so be patient and show it some love :)

The hedgehog.

This picture here was taken yesterday after Ella took a look at my freshly undone flat twists and asked me if I was a hedgehog- wth?!LOL pray for me y’all.

About Laxmi

Hello there; thanks for stopping by, my name is Laxmi (Lakshmi is the Hindu pronunciation, but pretty much everyone calls me 'Shimi' for short). I was born and raised in Accra, Ghana (Ashanti tribe) but did most of my 'growing up' (including college) in America; my 2nd adopted home. I moved to Germany in the summer of 2006 and have fallen deeply in love with Germany and Europe as a whole. My husband is German, hence the move to Germany and I am a mom to 3 of the most awesome, beautiful and coolest kids in the world-true story. So in short, I am a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, natural hair fanatic, music addict (especially '60s and '70s stuff - although my favourite band is TOOL) yoga enthusiast, foodie, dance lover, English teacher, movie nut and entrepreneur in the making :-). My online shop is a hair product haven for natural curlies. It is a work in progress so check it out and let me know if you notice anything is off and needs to be fixed-while you're filling up your shopping cart of course :) . I started lucky curls because there is very little access to good quality hair products for naturally curly hair in Germany. My blog is mostly about natural hair care, but I will be posting my musings on anything else that I find interesting. I will attempt to post in German- or 'Denglish', is more what it will be. I'm not a licensed beautician, I just love learning and talking about natural hair. Writing in a foreign language is a big adventure for me, so come join me and let's all share in our love for healthy hair :) If you have any questions, just leave a comment here on the blog, e-mail me via or join the facebook page through for updates and all things hair related.

Amen! I get really impatient at times, but like you I recently did a comparison shot from my big chop (also in Jan) to today. When you’re not watching things grow, it’s surprising how fast they progress! Love your lipstick in the January pic!
